Cappadocia Rug Weaving Art
Carpet and rug weaving have been a traditional occupation and cultural product for centuries in Cappadocia. No one knows exactly when the technique of carpet weaving first appeared; however, the oldest surviving carpet in the world is from the 5th century B.C and made in the Turkish style of a double knot. At the weaving corp. you will see how the Cappadocian women have been giving life to loops, unravelling silk cocoons, spinning and dyeing the wool using natural plants for generations.
Cappadocia Pottery Art
Just north of the Göreme National Park is Avanos, a town and district that is noted for its Turkish craft skills. To say that Avanos has a long history for pottery making is no exaggeration as the Avanos pottery art dates right back to the time of the Hittites in the Bronze Age. The town is located along the Kizilirmak (Red River) and the red silt of the Kizilirmak River is the source of the red clay that goes into pottery making. After the master potter, our guests are wellcomed on the traditional kick-wheel in order to turn the clay into their freestyle master piece.
